FAQs

What exactly is outsourcing?

In simple terms, outsourcing is when a business uses a third party to carry out part of its activity.

The type of work outsourced varies greatly from business to business, ranging from one-off projects such as the production of a new business mailer or the archiving of a back-log of documents, through to the outsourcing of entire customer service operations to a contact centre specialist.

Why outsource?

In an increasingly competitive world, the outsourcing of "back office" administrative duties enables businesses to focus on what they do best.

Recent research reveals that 66% of businesses who outsource identify the ability to focus on their core business activity as being the primary benefit of outsourcing.

If employees are constantly distracted from their daily schedule by unexpected or non-core activities, businesses can struggle to achieve their objectives.

Outsourcing can also provide access to specialist skills and expensive technologies, not necessarily available or affordable in-house. By using an outside specialist, the quality of work is assured while the time taken to complete a project is often reduced with the right expertise on board.

How does outsourcing help disabled people?

Despite the introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act in 1995 to represent the employment interests of people with disabilities in the UK, disabled people are undoubtedly still at a disadvantage when it comes to finding employment simply due to the physical environment of the work place.

However, with corporate social responsibility and the desire to employ a diverse workforce rising up the corporate agenda, many businesses are determined to give people with disabilities employment opportunities by working with not-for-profit organisations such as Remploy Offiscope.
